A Pastor’s Call

In his sermon on July 31, 2022, Pastor Barry Jeffries reminds me and the congregation (CBC) in 1 Pater 5:1–11 that a call to pastoral ministry is a call to God. He points from the Scripture what constitutes the pastor’s call to ministry. The first is a call to shepherd the flock (v.2). The second is to submit to God, to submit your life to God (vs. 6–7), and to submit to older elders in ministry. The idea of submission to God and others reveals a sense of humility, being willing to work humbly with others in ministry. The third and last is to stand (v. 8). The Devil hates the pastor, his flock, and his family, seeking to devour them. Pastor Barry reminds me of the victory of Jesus Christ in spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6). He challenged me to declare a side by opposing the devil, standing firm in faith and in victory with the assurance that God is with me and my brothers and sisters (the church) are with me. I am reminded to stand and be firm in the faith and to be faithful in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am humbled and honored to be reminded of God’s call in my life and to be ordained as a gospel minister. For me, this is remarkable and a great privilege that I consider the highest calling in my life. May God be praised in and through my called life and ministry. Amen!
